In addition to the desired effect, this can cause drug side effects.

The main side effects are the following.

Uncommon (affects 10 to 30 out of 100 people)

• Drowsiness , drowsiness,  general feeling of weakness,  a dizzying sensation and reduced ability to react. This is especially troublesome with activities that require your attention, such as driving, climbing a ladder, or monitoring a process at work. Do not engage in risky activities, especially during the first two weeks of treatment, while you are still getting used to the medicine.
• Nausea , sometimes with vomiting. This side effect usually   passes once you have become accustomed to this medication after a few days. It usually helps to lie down for a while if you feel nauseous.

Rare (affects 1 to 10 people in 100)

• Constipation  (constipation). If possible, eat fiber-rich foods and drink plenty of fluids. Sometimes doctors prescribe a laxative with this medicine  . Consult  your doctor if you suffer from  constipation due to tramadol .
• Dry mouth . This causes cavities in your teeth more quickly. Brush and floss extra well if you notice that you continue to suffer from a dry mouth. If necessary, have the dentist checked more often if you use this medicine for several weeks. If you suffer from a dry mouth, you can stimulate the production of saliva with (sugar-free) chewing gum, pineapple cubes or by sucking on ice cubes. Furthermore, it is better to avoid highly spiced, dry and hard food, moisten your food with gravy or fruit purée and  take fluids with food .
• Dizziness , especially when getting up from a bed or chair. This generally passes when you get used to this medicine after a few days. If you feel dizzy, do not get up too quickly from a bed or chair. It is best to lie down for a while and elevate your legs, for example on a pillow.
• Itching, rash, redness  and  hives . This may indicate hypersensitivity. Contact your doctor so that he can determine whether you are hypersensitive to this drug.
• Sweating  and  headache . These side effects are not dangerous. Do let your doctor know if it bothers you a lot.

Very rare (affects less than 1 in 100 people)

• Difficulty urinating . This is especially important if you already have difficulty urinating due to an enlarged  prostate . Contact your doctor if you notice this. Another medicine may be more suitable for you.
• Difficulty breathing . This only occurs with high doses of tramadol, but if you suffer from a  respiratory disease , such as  asthma  or  COPD , you may  become short of breath sooner  . If you notice this,  consult  your doctor.
• Psychological complaints,  such as confusion, difficulty sleeping, nightmares and depression. If this bothers you a lot,  consult  your doctor.
• Hypersensitivity  to this drug. You will notice this by  swollen  lips, tongue or face,  shortness of breath  or fainting. In very rare cases, a serious skin condition may develop with blistering or peeling of the skin. The blisters mainly occur on the lips and on the mucous membranes of the mouth and genitals. Then stop using it and,  in these cases, call  a doctor or go to the First Aid Service. You should not use this medicine in the future. Therefore, inform the pharmacist that you are hypersensitive to tramadol. The pharmacy team can then ensure that you do not receive this medicine or similar medicines again.
• Epileptic attacks. People with  epilepsy  are at risk of an increase in the number of seizures. Discuss  this with your doctor.
• Sleep apnea , a brief period of respiratory arrest during sleep. This drug can cause sleep apnea. If you have suffered from sleep apnea before, you may be more affected by it. Contact your doctor if you notice nocturnal bouts of wheezing or if they get worse.
